30 October 2017, Moscow, Turin. Banca Intesa Russia, together with its parent bank Intesa Sanpaolo and the Group’s International Subsidiary Banks take an active part in World Savings Day celebrated annually on 31st of October. Turin’s Savings Museum, together with various other organizations, joins efforts in promoting the campaign in Italy.
The goal of the campaign is to allow everyone to learn how to manage their finances and plan their spending wisely. The campaign is aimed primarily at people who lack access to competent advisers on these issues.
From the 20th of October to the 20th of November 2017, the Bank's volunteers deliver financial literacy lessons to pupils in a number of Russian regions - in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara and Krasnodar.
In a playful and interactive way children are introduced to basic concepts of saving and investment; the need to work in order to earn money to achieve life goals; possible ways of pocket money spending, as well as ways of financial plan and moneybox creation. First group activities triggered a huge interest in this subject in both children and parents alike. The most popular activities include: “design a dream-reaching map”, together with mentors and a task, called “draw your wish”.
The history of this initiative dates back to 1924, when representatives of 29 countries gathered during the 1st International Savings Bank Congress (World Society of Savings Banks) in Milan, Italy. At the end of the conference, on the 31st of October – it was decided to establish the World Savings Day. In 1989, the day was officially recognized by the UN.
The idea to celebrate World Savings Day gained momentum in 2016. Turin’s Savings Museum resumed the festive tradition by organizing a number of public events and exhibitions with the motto “The Art of Saving”.
In 2017, with the participation of the Group’s International Subsidiary Banks, the campaign goes beyond Italian national borders, with an enhanced program of activities. Initiatives are also promoted in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Egypt, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia. Banca Intesa Russia is hosting the World Savings Day celebration for the first time.
“Today more than ever it is important to celebrate saving again. Financial education plays an important role in this process, allowing savers to make informed planning and investment choices,” stressed Gian Maria Gros-Pietro, Intesa Sanpaolo Group’s Chairman.
“We are very happy, that Banca Intesa, together with the Group’s International Subsidiary Banks of Intesa Sanpaolo, are taking part in events dedicated to the World Savings Day. An early age financial education helps to nurture a right type of financial behavior in adults. We can witness a huge success of this campaign in Russia; therefore, we plan to repeat it next year in a vaster geography and with an increased number of participants”, said Antonio Fallico, Banca Intesa’s Chairman of Board of Directors.
