Antonio Fallico: the economies of Russia and the Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia complement each other, and this opens up opportunities for the development of trade and economic relations

21 September 2018, Trieste, Moscow. Today, the 1st Russian-Italian business seminar was held in Trieste (Friuli Venezia Giulia region). The participants discussed the possibility of expanding cooperation between the two countries. Special attention was paid to the issues of cooperation in trade, economic and financial spheres, in innovative technologies, in shipbuilding and infrastructure projects, as well as in tourism.

The seminar was organized by the Italian non-profit Association Conoscere Eurasia, as well as the Roscongress Foundation, the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the insurance company Generali and the group Rizzani de Eccher, with the support of Banca Intesa, the group Intesa Sanpaolo and the cultural center Veritas.

Russian Ambassador to Italy, Sergey Razov, entrepreneurs, heads of companies from the two countries addressed the audience.

"The products of mechanical engineering and mechatronics, ferrous metallurgy, shipbuilding, as well as furniture, engines and various equipment are the driving force for the export of enterprises from Friuli Venezia Giulia to Russia", said at the opening of the Seminar the President of Banca Intesa, President of the Association Conoscere Eurasia Antonio Fallico. "Close ties with the Russian market can be further developed, including through the complementarity of the two economies."

Participants noted the continued growth of trade between companies from this area in the North-East of Italy and Russia. Its volume increased in the first half of 2018 by 3.7%, reaching 324 million euros. Russian supplies increased by 10.5%, and exports from Friuli Venezia Giulia to Russia decreased by 4.8%. However, the dynamics of trade and economic relations between Russia and this Italian region continued the positive dynamics of 2017.
