November 21, 2018, Lugano (Switzerland), Moscow. The second Russian-Swiss business seminar “Switzerland-Russia: The art of innovation. To know each other, to collaborate, to grow” was held in Lugano today.
Its participants discussed Russia’s role in the context of the global geopolitical situation, as well as opportunities for bilateral cooperation in economy, finance and trade.
The seminar was organized by the Italian non-profit Association Conoscere Eurasia, as well as the Roskognress Foundation and the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum with the support of Banca Intesa, Fideuram, Lugano Commodity Trading Association and the Russian House in Davos.
The Secretary of State of the Canton of Ticino, Norman Gobbi, the Member of the Council of States, Co-Chair of the Switzerland-Russia Friendship Group of the Federal Assembly of Switzerland, Filippo Lombardi and the Russian Ambassador in Switzerland, Sergei Garmonin, addressed the participants. Among the speakers were the heads of financial groups and industrial companies and experts from the two countries.
"“The status of a neutral Country is very precious for Switzerland, said in his opening remarks Antonio Fallico, President of Banca Intesa and Association Conoscere Eurasia. Switzerland has an important role, but could have done better. Its trade with Russia increased in 2017 by 1.03%, exceeding 6 billion dollars. It is more than 4.6 billion in 2015, but much less than 13.5 billion of 2012. From January to August of 2018 the positive trend is confirmed: the trade volume has already reached 4.6 billion dollars, that is one billion dollars more comparing with the same period of 2017”.
